More than $140 million in federal CARES Act grants is going to the Detroit Metro Airport, the governor announced earlier last month.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the funding will support airports that have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Officials say the grant will help the airports prepare for reopening.
According to WXYZ, Michigan airports are getting $256 million in total.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer told WXYZ that the coronavirus has impacted every business in Michigan. She thanked lawmakers for securing the grant money being given to the airport.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted every business sector – big and small – across Michigan and these grants will provide much-needed resources to help airports across the state whether this public health crisis and be prepared when more people resume air travel,” Whitmer told WXYZ. “I want to thank our congressional leaders for securing this critical funding.”
