Democratic incumbent Laurie Pohutsky has won the race for House District 19, defeating Republican opponent Martha Ptashnik.
Pohutsky expressed gratitude in a statement posted on her Facebook page on Nov. 4.
“Thank you, Livonia, for allowing me to serve as your Representative for two more years!
I want to thank everyone who voted yesterday, regardless of whether it was for me or not. Voting is one of our most important duties as citizens, and I was thrilled so many went to the polls yesterday or voted by absentee ballot.
I also want to thank everyone who contributed to this campaign. Whether you knocked doors, made phone calls, donated money, or helped keep our team up and running: thank you. This year has been difficult for everyone, so the support everyone has offered in spite of that has truly meant the world and helped get us across the finish line.
Lastly, I want to say how incredibly proud I am of Team Pohutsky. You guys dealt with an unprecedented election cycle with grit, innovation, and tenacity like I have never seen before. I couldn't be more grateful to have you in my corner. Thank you, HD 19.”
Ptashnik also took to Facebook to concede in the following statement:
“I am very proud of our campaign and humbled by all of the support we received. Throughout the campaign I met a lot of great people, built a lot of new friendships and I will continue to be a strong advocate for our Livonia students, seniors and public safety officers. I commend Laurie Pohutsky on her campaign and wish her well.” - Martha
